The time has come for my third little jaunt to India, and this time I'm joining the ranks of the travel bloggers. So I'm five years late catching up with technology... what else is new. This is just for close friends, though. I'm not writing any essays this time.
Since I'll only be in India for a couple weeks, I probably won't spend much time in internet cafes. So if I don't update this regularly while I'm there, I'll spend some time afterwards transcribing journal entries. That'll save us all time, and spare me the view of your faces glazing over as I get lost in storytelling tangents.
Unlike my first two trips to the land of holy men and contaminated water, this little vacation will involve neither research nor sex. But India is crazy, so there is sure to be some adventure worth reporting.
The general plan goes like this:
June 23 - Luke's birthday in NYC
June 25 - fly from JFK to Helsinki
June 26 - arrive in Delhi, spend a couple days there alone
June 28 - meet up with Sarah and Adriana (study abroad friends) and head off to Darjeeling
July 5-ish - travel to Dharamsala for the Dalai Lama's public teachings, visit Tibetan friends and maybe a childhood friend who's traveling in India right now
July 7 - attend day 1 of teachings
July 8 - travel back to Delhi and fly out for NACCHO annual conference, complete with enlightenment gained from one day of teachings
A couple housekeeping items:
1. If you want anything from India, let me know and I'll do my best to entertain requests. I'd recommend tea, jewelry, and cigarettes (the things I'll be purchasing for myself).
2. If you really miss me, you might be able to call me. I'll bring my cell phone from Honduras and see if I can get it to work. Plus, I'll give you all my calling card number so you can even call me for free (calling India is pretty cheap with a card). This may actually be the best way to get in touch with me since I probably won't check email much.
Okay, now that we've got that taken care of, back to less important things... like getting a visa.
